About SWEA International, Inc.:

Founded in Los Angeles, CA in 1979, SWEA International (Swedish Women’s Educational Association) is a global non-profit organization for Swedish women or Swedish speaking women who live, or have lived, outside Sweden. SWEA’s mission is to promote Swedish culture and traditions, and to support education through scholarships and cultural community events.

SWEA currently has about 7,000 members in 70 chapters in 30 countries and five continents around the world. SWEA Arizona was founded in Phoenix, AZ in 1986 and has about 70 members.


Summary of Scholarship:

SWEA Arizona is awarding a Scholarship of $1,500 to an Undergraduate or Graduate Student in Arizona who has been accepted to a study abroad program in Sweden. Both men and women are encouraged to apply, and the study abroad program can be in any field of study as long as the you are dedicated to and interested in broaden and deepen your knowledge of Sweden and Swedish culture. SWEA Arizona is looking for you to explore beautiful Sweden and gain knowledge about Swedish language, history, culture, traditions, the people, food, music, architecture, literature, business and/or any other areas of interest related to Sweden.


Scholarship Requirements:

  • Reside and attend Undergraduate or Postgraduate Degree in Arizona
  • Show evidence of acceptance into study abroad program in Sweden
  • Attend study abroad program in Sweden during 2020
  • Demonstrated interest to learn about Sweden and Swedish culture
  • Account for the use of the scholarship money (flights, books, rent, and/or food etc.)
  • Give a presentation to the SWEA Arizona Chapter about your experience exploring Sweden and learning about Swedish culture
  • SWEA members and SWEA family members do not qualify to apply
  • Have a lot of fun, explore, and learn as much as possible about Sweden!

How to Apply:

Please email your application to SWEA Arizona’s Scholarship Committee, arizonaswea(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign), ! Please include a short summary of who you are, the study abroad program in Sweden you have been accepted to, when your program starts, and what you intend to use the Scholarship money for. Application deadline is May 15, 2020 for programs starting in the fall of 2020.

The winner of the Scholarship will be announced June 1, 2020 and you will attend your study abroad program in Sweden in 2020-2021. If you have any questions or would like additional information please contact SWEA Arizona’s Scholarship Committee.
